Install guides

These pages are generated from the SDK READMEs when the site is built. The same READMEs are followed, step by step, by an install test on a brand-new Rails app and a brand-new Go service before any release, so what you read here is what was proven to work.

[ rails ]

Rails

Ruby on Rails (and plain Rack, Sidekiq). The gem also renders the browser sensor tag.

[ go ]

Go

net/http and gin. Standard library only.

[ browser ]

Browser

One script tag or one npm call, for an app without the Rails gem.

API and MCP

[ api ]

HTTP API

Read issues, error counts, trends and affected users from your own programs with an API key.

[ mcp ]

MCP server

Connect Claude Code, Cursor or Claude Desktop and ask about your errors in plain language.

Which one do I need?

  • A Rails app: Rails only. The gem renders the browser sensor in your layout, so pages are covered too.
  • A Go service: Go. If it serves pages, add the browser tag with the public part of your DSN.
  • Any other web app: Browser: one script tag.

For Rails, the whole install is:

[ rails ] install
bundle add devbench
bin/rails generate devbench
DEVBENCH_DSN=https://<public>:<secret>@adt-ingest.onrender.com

You get DEVBENCH_DSN when you sign in and create an environment. One value per environment; keep it in your secrets manager.
